With a career spanning multiple continents and fields, René brings extensive and in-depth leadership experience in finance, commercial operations and negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, general management, and strategy development. Having worked and lived abroad for 17 years in various markets across North and South America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, René has developed a global mindset and a pragmatic leadership style rooted in adaptability, cultural competence, and results-oriented execution. This experience includes C-level roles such as CFO and Managing Director. A strong focus was on building and developing individuals and teams.

René has spent most of his career in the energy sector, where his experience includes navigating the complexities of the global energy transition. He has led Europe’s largest open-access gas storage facility (Bergermeer) and, together with his team, played a pioneering role in developing CO2 storage in the Netherlands in collaboration with Porthos. As CFO of a family-owned business, René has drawn great satisfaction from the focus on responsible entrepreneurship, commitment to people, and creating long-term value for future generations. Outside the boardroom, he has consistently contributed to society through active involvement in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations—in board positions that reflect his commitment to responsible leadership, social responsibility, and the sharing of best practices.
