The Dutch electricity price (active monthly contract) is currently around EUR 91/MWh, which is mainly explained by seasonal effects. In autumn, solar production decreases sharply, while wind on increases, but this does not fully compensate for the production loss. Since late September, electricity on the day-ahead market has been traded on a quarterly basis. This led to a noticeable sawtooth pattern in the price. This reflects the way producers deal with block bids and plant start-up times. In France, the price advantage of the ARENH scheme expires as of 2026. New mechanisms should in the French electricity market are likely to lead to higher market prices.
In the EU ETS market, the price is in a range of EUR 75/ton and EUR 80/ton. The price development over the last two months has resulted in the national CO2 tax for 2026 to be around EUR 1.50/ton. With ETS2, we see adjustments emerging even before the start of the system in 2027. Last week, European Commissioner Hoekstra made five proposals that attempt to limit upward price risks.
