One year after its founding, EqoLibrium takes the next step with the appointment of an Advisory Board

June 5, 2026 – Research and planning firm EqoLibrium is proud to announce the establishment of an Advisory Board. With the appointment of this board, EqoLibrium is taking an important step toward further strengthening the quality, reliability, and independence of its analyses in the areas of energy transition and climate policy.

EqoLibrium was founded exactly one year ago and develops social, economic, and technical energy scenarios for complex issues related to the climate and energy transition. The organization supports governments, businesses, and civil society organizations with well-founded analyses and future projections that contribute to informed decision-making.

To systematically safeguard the independence and quality of its work, EqoLibrium has established an Advisory Board. The board will oversee the reliability and objectivity of the analyses. In addition, the members serve as a strategic sounding board and help identify opportunities, developments, and risks within the rapidly changing energy and climate landscape.

“At EqoLibrium, we believe that the energy transition requires analyses that are not only substantively sound, but also independent and socially relevant,” says Hans van Cleef, Managing Director and Head of Energy Research at EqoLibrium.

The composition of the Advisory Board therefore reflects EqoLibrium’s multidisciplinary approach. Together, the members bring expertise from the fields of academia, politics, energy, and industry, bringing together a variety of perspectives.

The Advisory Board of EqoLibrium consists of:

  • Gert-Jan Segers (Chair)
  • René Zwanepol (industry)
  • Tom van Engers (Academic, University of Amsterdam)
  • Diederik Samsom (politician)
  • Marlies Visser (Energy)
  • Barbara Verwayen (Industry, Cluster 6)

With this broad representation, EqoLibrium aims to continue contributing to a fact-based, independent, and constructive debate on the challenges and opportunities of the energy and climate transition.

“We are delighted that these experienced and knowledgeable professionals have chosen to join EqoLibrium. Their expertise and perspectives are a valuable asset to our mission of contributing to a successful energy transition through independent analysis,” said Gert-Jan Segers, Chair of the Advisory Board.

EqoLibrium looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with the members of the Advisory Board and to the agency’s continued growth in the coming years.
